An idea that I put into action right away. Everyday right after school or sometimes right before school starts, I’ve been meeting with that one student who was having difficulty with the class material as it was presented to us in class by the teacher.  I went over the class material with him, and we talked about the textbook assignments.  After our second day of after school studies, he began looking forward to meeting with me to learn the class assignments.  By the third day of our study meetings, his understanding of the class material improved. He’s answering questions in class now.  By the fourth day, two other students in my classroom joined me after school for study.  It turns out that they too were having a difficult time grasping the class material as it was taught to them by the teacher in class.  Now I have a group of three students meeting with me after school to learn.  I guess word is getting around about my study meetings.  (To be continued….)    Click Banner Above To Return to Home Page.

Hey, I’m Khaleel.  I’ve been thinking about a recent situation I noticed about a student in my class.  I was walking to a local library on Friday after school.  I had decided on a book to check out from the library.  The book is kind of related to class material that I wanted to learn more about ahead of time.  A student from class was sitting outside on the steps of the library entrance.  I’ve noticed that he would often show up a little late for class two or three times a week barely making it to his desk and sitting down before the teacher enters the classroom. I also noticed how he has a difficult time finding things in his book bag needed for class. After seeing this a few times, I asked myself if there is something that I can do to help him with this issue. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I had an idea, a great idea. After I checked my book out from the library, I stepped outside and there he was, still sitting on the steps with his book bag beside him.  I told him that I noticed his situation and that I could help him to organize his entire book bag meaning everything including his assignment papers, notebooks, pencils, textbooks and any other class material.  We meet three days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays right after school and on Sundays to organize and categorize everything in his book bag. Our after school and Sunday organize meetings, is when we talked about and created cut-out dividers and we’d label each divider.  After our second day of after school organizing and categorizing, he began looking forward to meeting with me to learn best ways to categorize and organize.  By the third day of our meetings, he was arriving ahead of time for class, and his book bag content is categorized and easily accessible for him now.  His class material is readily available and completed on time. By the fourth day, two other students joined me after school to learn to organize and categorize their book bags content and had been having the same difficulty. I guess word is getting around about my categorize and organize meetings. Now I have a group of three students meeting with me after school to learn to categorize and organize.  (To be continued….)   Click Banner Above to Return to Home Page.
